Making disciples
in Idaho

North Idaho is home to beautiful lakes, gorgeous mountains and a wonderful community of people. Unfortunately, due to a lot of socioeconomic issues, people do fall on hard times. That's where we come in.

Pastor Dirk Scott, our fearless leader, has a bachelor's degree and background in social work. This ministry was born out of a call God placed on His heart 7 years ago. Having been homeless off and on as a child, this is an issue that is near and dear to his heart. When God called him to begin his this ministry and start a journey toward becoming an ordained minister, he had just been told by the number-one-ranked doctor in the world and head of endocrinology at the Mayo Clinic that he was dying and would not survive another year. When he told his wife Dena of his call, she was still reeling from his terminal diagnosis and supported his beginning pastoral education because she believed it was his dying wish. Dirk then launched 2nd Chance Ministries. Since its inception, 2nd Chance has gone from a simple discipleship ministry through providing breakfast to the homeless, to now having multiple outreaches.

Dirk's favorite quote is, "I don't just believe in miracles, I rely on them."

Homeless Outreach

Did you know 80% of our homeless community does have a job (and most have 2 jobs)? Unfortunately due to high housing cost and lower wages, many people can't afford rent. We provide a hot breakfast and a sack lunch to-go every Monday thru Saturday with a bible study and opportunities for fellowship and prayer.
The goal: to create new disciples of Jesus and walk with them in their current season.

All of the items in our Family Resource Center are from our amazing partners and volunteers. We provide: hygiene products, men and women's clothing, diapers, and other essentials.

Families in Crisis

This ministry is part of a much bigger organization. While we are a last call, there are situations where families can't get into housing for a day or two so we cover motel costs while they wait. We do receive some funding from federal grants, but we also depend on our donations to help cover these costs.

Strengthening Families

Contact: Pastor Barbara Kingen

"The Strengthening Families Program (SFP) is an evidence-based family skills training program for high-risk and general population families that is recognized both nationally and internationally. Parents and youth attend weekly SFP skills classes together, learning parenting skills and youth life and refusal skills. They have separate class training for parents and youth the first hour, followed by a joint family practice session the second hour."
